Flying Through Space
Nutmeg & Chocolate
Citation:   Brownie. "Flying Through Space: An Experience with Nutmeg & Chocolate (exp118573)". Erowid.org. Apr 23, 2025. erowid.org/exp/118573

DOSE:
3 g oral Nutmeg (ground / crushed)
2 Tbsp oral Chocolate (powder / crystals)
BODY WEIGHT: 56 kg
I'd never taken anything besides CBD+ and weed before eating nutmeg. I'd researched and found that a beginner dose is anywhere between 5-10g, but knowing I weigh less than the average person, I decided to use 3g, which was roughly 2 teaspoons for me. I went into this experience hoping to become high, to relax, and with plain curiosity. I wouldn't have minded if the 3g turned out to not have a strong effect on me. I'd rather not feel anything than accidentally dose too high for my first time.

I made a brownie from a recipe that I found on the internet and slightly altered it to be more sweet:

2 tsp nutmeg (3g)
1 tsp cumin
3 tsp cinnamon
4 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp cocao powder
4 tbsp water
splash of vanilla extract
splash of olive oil

I mixed the dry ingredients in an oven-safe mug before adding the water, vanilla extract, and olive oil and mixed again. I baked that for like 15 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius / 392 degrees Fahrenheit and let it rest a bit before eating. Honestly, it wasn't sweet enough for me despite adding more sugar, but it was edible. It just tasted like a bland brownie with a hint of nutmeg.

I ate the brownie at around 5pm, which in retrospect I should've done in the morning, but I didn't expect anything crazy from the small dose. At around 9pm, I started to feel tipsy and I struggled to focus. I was playing a video game with my friends online and my partner next to me, when I started to zone out a bit.

From 10pm on, I was moderately high and laughing a lot, at stuff that isn't funny really. At around 11pm, I was zoning out due to being high. My mouth was starting to feel dry, but it was a good, relaxed feeling and it was nice that it stayed for a few hours. Time was going by faster than I thought though.

At 1am, I felt like I had "sobered up" somewhat, and I was tired, so I went to bed. But I couldn't sleep. Random, contextless, and incoherent visuals were racing through my head. I normally experience this too sometimes, when I almost fall asleep. But this time it felt kind of annoying and it would happen as soon as I'd close my eyes, so not when I was close to falling asleep.

Multiple times that I would almost fall asleep, there would be a random noise waking me up, and I would find myself doubting myself. I was starting to become paranoid around this point, which has happened to me before after eating CBD+ and vaping weed in higher doses than I can handle. My mouth was extremely dry now, it hurt to swallow, and I was drinking excessively the whole evening and night. I was thinking about how I have to be careful to not overdrink.

I would open my eyes to avoid the visuals in my head, and just wanted to wait it out. My vision was blurry and had like, some sort of black pattern. I looked over at my partner, sleeping, but the pattern on his blanket was starting to look like dinosaur skin now, so I looked out the window instead. My heart was beating fast from being paranoid now.

When I got up to pee, my paranoia and low iron teamed up to make my heart race, and I found myself taking deep breaths to calm myself while on the toilet. After peeing, I looked in the mirror, but I didn't look any different than usual. My vision was still very blurry, though, like when I'm really drunk.

When I layed back down, I had a feeling in my chest that is similar to when you eat mint. Later, I felt a sharp, but endurable pain about where my liver sits, and I know that nutmeg is heavy on the liver. That lasted for about 5 minutes. I don't even remember if this happened before or after the peak.

At the peak, between 3-4pm, I had closed eye hallucinations. The colours I saw were extremely bright and saturated, the shapes were moving rapidly. There were psychedelic mandalas, spinning, and changing colour every second. The shapes and colours were starting to look like actual scenes to me, the dark blue background, the big dots, and the small dots made it look like I was flying through space, in between planets and with a lot of stars far away. A purple swirl appeared and I made that out to be a rocket flying away from me in a circular motion, leaving behind a purple cloud trail.

I was fascinated by it.

I struggle to let go. I was afraid to lose control over my thoughts and the heaviness when my body relaxed didn't sit well with me. I get sleep paralysis a lot and it felt very similar. I felt very alone. I think this part would've felt a lot better, had I not been laying in a dark room and in quietness. I'm a bit scared of the dark to begin with. In retrospect, I could've left the bedroom and sat in the living room with the lights on, but that didn't occur to me at the time. The closed-eye hallucinations either stopped somewhat, or I had decided to keep my eyes open now. I fell asleep at some point because of extreme tiredness.

The next day, I felt extremely dehydrated obviously, and I had a bad headache. I didn't feel high or otherwise impaired anymore, though. I got up around 1pm, drank a coffee, showered, and felt a bit better. We had to do groceries for the week, and since I felt fine now, we did just that.

We split in the grocery store, I get the fruits, vegetables, spices, and bread, and my partner gets the rest. As soon as he left I found myself struggling to find the kidney beans and then I struggled to compare the prices to each other. I was kind of overwhelmed, but it was fine. I also noticed that it was hard for me to focus my vision and I couldn't make up people's faces that well. I managed though. When we went to the register, I forgot to take out my bag and I struggled to organize the groceries. Walking back the headache came back along with some nausea and hurt even more. After we had dinner that night, the effects were gone. That was around 7pm.

In conclusion, I feel like I will try nutmeg again in a month or so, but early in the day. I'm aware that I'm easily paranoid, so I'm not going to up the dose. Hopefully then, I can enjoy the peak in a nice setting. I didn't expect to have any psychedelic effect from just 3g, but I guess I'm just lightweight and/or my body is just really sensitive to it.
